20 odd years ago Paul and I were rivals, we both worked selling advertising space to airlines and hotels around the world. We would meet up every now and then in some 5 star hotel somewhere in the world. Because we both did similar jobs we knew what it was like and what the down side of such a life entailed. This was story Paul told me after a few drinks in a hotel bar one night and must be the most embarrassing event ever. And it was about him, plonker.
Paul was in Dubai and was staying at one of the poshest hotels in the city, he had been out the night before and eaten a very expensive meal, however, the meal did not agree with him and the next morning he was not feeling very well. He had checked out of the hotel, stored his suitcase and was sitting waiting for his taxi to his last appointment when the effects of the night before hit him. Diarrhea can be hard thing to deal with at the most suitable times, but not when sitting on an expensive white sofa in a five star hotel. I won’t go into too much detail here, but it is fair to say Mr K left his mark on that hotel like no other. I have always recalled that story because although it may have been hard on Paul it always makes me laugh, the thought of him waddling across the lobby to reach the haven of the hotel loo is quite an image.
After what i mentioned above, I have to say PK’s ability to laugh at himself is his best quality, I would also add his supportiveness and generosity whould have to be the other two.
Again following from the tale above, his constitution is obviously an issue, but besides that I would add his flirtatious nature and dress sense.
See the answer to question 1, plus I have to say that Paul is one of life’s funny people
He should have stayed in publishing, he was without question one of the best sales person I ever met.
No and I don’t think I would want to.
I did not work with Paul, I was a competitor of his, but still I found him to be supportive, engaging, creative and I always thought it would have been really good to have been on the same side
Heaps of stuff, PK loved to talk and create and spending time with him was always somewhere that you would learn. He really helped me deal with people in the Middle East, an area we both shared.
Dam sure I would, well as long as his world had enough loo’s !!!
10 Is this the silliest thing on Paul Kavanagh’s website?
Not sure it is silly, but it is certainly brave to ask anyone to say what they think.
Paul’s response:
Traci Ann Wright was and I am sure still is one of life’s sweet people, someone that is just so nice and thoughtful to others. We were competitors when I was selling advertising for Executive Travel magazine. Our paths would cross about 4 or 5 times a year, plus at the big travel exhibitions so over the 5 years we got to know each other quite well. We faced the same pressures, the loneliness of so much travelling and staying in hotels in weird and wonderful parts of the world.
She was married back then and I know just how much she missed him while she was away, but what was weird was that when she quit the job then ended up separating, I know she won’t mind me saying that, but I raise it because I think it is quite reveling about just how hard it was doing that job.
Traci Ann now runs a Public Speakers agency up north in Manchester and thanks to Facebook we can keep in touch.
